Safe Medications During Pregnancy
It would be best if you needed no medication during your pregnancy other than vitamins. However, it’s usually better to take medication than to suffer with an illness in pregnancy.
FEVER
- Call us if your fever is over 101 degrees.
- Avoid Aspirin or Advil.
- TYLENOL (acetaminophen) is the drug of choice. Take one every 3-4 hours if needed, but you may be able to control your fever by using a luke warm shower or bath.
COLD SYMPTOMS
- Rest, fluids and a humidifier can rid you of many symptoms.
- However, for a cough Robitussin, and cough drops are OK.
- Congestion can be treated with Sudafed, Actifed, Drixoral, and Chlortrimeton.
- For nasal congestion, you can use Ocean Spray Saline Nasal Drops.
- If you have a sore throat, try Chloraseptic Spray or Cepacol to gargle.
- Vaporub or a heating pad may also help aching muscles.
FLU
- When you have flu symptoms, you should increase your fluids, rest and take Tylenol if necessary.
- For nausea, a clear liquid diet and eating popsicles may help.
- For diarrhea you may use Kaopectate.
- If you are unable to keep fluids down or if you have nausea or vomiting for more than a day, you should call us at 843-6168.
INDIGESTION
- Tums (good source of calcium), Riopan, Mylanta, Maalox, Gaviscon and Rolaids.
CONSTIPATION
- Metamucil, Citrucel, Colace, Surfak, Milk of Magnesia, fluids and exercise.
