Consuelo Carmona, MD

Northeast Heights Office

• Dr. Carmona is a transplant from the Show Me State of Missouri and has been with the practice since 1988. She loves taking care of women especially when she has the honor of being involved with the birth of their babies. She has already delivered her first generation of babies. Her time away from work is spent with her husband Wallace, daughter Malia, son Aidan, the 2 family dogs Avalon and Knight, and her 2 Amazon parrots Mo and Flash.

Kristina Chongsiriwatana, MD

• Dr. Chongsiriwatana was born and raised in Albuquerque and attended Amherst College in Massachusetts. She missed New Mexico during her four years back East, so returned to Albuquerque for medical school and doesn't plan on moving away again.  She likes to travel, knit and crochet in her free time and is engaged to be married in June 2009.  Many of her patients call her Dr. Chong, which some women find easier to pronounce than her seven syllable last name.

Steven Gough, MD

• Dr. Gough grew up in the USAF, but considers Albuquerque his home. When not seeing patients or participating on the WSNM management team, he loves to spend time with his wife Kathy and their children Katie and Robert. He hung up his soccer cleats just before he hit 40 but still loves to ski.

Lucille Grier, MD

• Dr. Grier is originally from Albuquerque and is excited to be back in New Mexico with her entire family nearby. After spending her undergraduate and medical school years in New Orleans, she then moved to New York and completed her residency at North Shore University Hospital. Outside of the office, Dr. Grier enjoys being with her family, singing classical music in a choir setting, reading novels, karaoke, and traveling to tropical islands.

Mary Mark, MD

Downtown/Westside Office

• Dr. Mark grew up in New Mexico and has been with WSNM since 1984. After having the privilege of delivering thousands of babies over the course of many years, she has scaled back her practice and now provides office-based gynecology services out of the Riverside Plaza Office on Albuquerque’s Westside. Dr. Mark served as the President of WSNM from 1997- 2007. She is the proud mother of three children: Kara, Michael and John.

Rebecca Okun, MD

Northeast Heights Office

• Originally from the East Coast, Dr. Okun joined WSNM in 1991 after completing a four year Federal Government pay back at the Gallup Indian Center. She has a very busy practice in the Northeast Heights Office and also serves as the Clinical Director of the WSNM Management Team. She has two grown daughters, she is an accomplished singer, and has performed with Musical Theatre Southwest and Opera Southwest.

Jody Stonehocker, MD

• Dr. Stonehocker is overjoyed to return to Albuquerque after spending three years practicing in San Diego, California. She is a fluent Spanish speaker looking forward to establishing relationships with patients here in New Mexico. When not at the office, she loves to spend time with her husband Walter and their two daughters Maya and Clara. She also enjoys cooking, the great outdoors and a great novel.

Julie Wheir, MD

• Dr. Wheir has lived in New Mexico since 1995 and completed her undergraduate education, medical school and Ob/Gyn residency training at the University of New Mexico.  She is very active in many outdoor activities including running, mountain biking and skiing.  She enjoys these activities with her husband, Will, and spending time with their dogs, Hunter and Dutch.  They are expecting a new addition to their family, a baby boy, in October 2008.

• Dr. Williams grew up in the nearby state of Colorado. She enjoys the field of obstetrics and gynecology and has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery. She also keeps busy at home with her husband Luis and daughter Miel. In her free time she enjoys running (5 marathons), hiking, cooking and snow skiing.

James Wurzel, MD

• Dr. Wurzel is married with three children and three cats. His children are teenager Gabriela, toddler Sebastian and infant Julius. His cats are Chiarascurra, meaning "light and shadow" in Italian, so named because she is black and white, Macchiatta who is espresso brown with a white nose, and Kalina, named after a Mexican superhero. In his free time, he hangs out with his children and likes to shoot pool when he gets the chance.

• Special Interests: A fluent Spanish speaker, Dr. Wurzel specializes in minimally invasive surgical solutions for women who need surgery, but prefer smaller rather than larger incisions. He is excited about several new treatment options available to patients at WSNM. For women suffering from heavy, painful or abnornmal periods, he recommends either the Novasure device or the Mirena IUD. For women wanting permanent birth control, Dr. Wurzel suggests the Essure device, which can be performed in the WSNM office without general anesthesia.
